As I contemplate Martha, I recognize the “doer” in me that places a priority on getting the Mommy things done — after all, I am responsible for making sure my household runs smoothly! And yet, while “doing” for my family is a good thing, I must never forget that “listening” at the feet of my Lord is an even “better” thing — because if I listen to the words of Christ, if I spend time meditating on His Sacrifice and Adoring my Savior, then all my “doing” will fall into the proper perspective. Remember that Martha took Christ’s words to heart — after Lazarus had died, Martha, the “doer” went to meet Him and testified to her faith in the Christ, the Son of God and His ability to do anything — including raising her brother from the dead! Let us pray . . .
Lord, help me to remember that the most important part of my day is the time — whether a few minutes or an hour — that I spend in Your presence — contemplating you and all you have done for me and my family. Help me to be a faithful mother who not only does good for my family, but more importantly, is also a beautiful role model of a mother who trusts in You completely — knowing that You can overcome any challenge I may face today, no matter how trivial or difficult! I place my trust in You, my Lord and Savior!
